The ancient Borsao, Burya for the Muslims, passed peacefully to Christian rule in the 12th century.
The current Borja has been linked to the origin of the well-known Borja-Borgia lineage due to the presence of knights from the Aragonese population in the conquest of the kingdom of Valencia by Jaime I, the Conqueror. Residents who ended up settling in the city of Xàtiva and surroundings, although the documentation on this subject is practically non-existent.
Due to the constant Castilian invasions, the town became a military fortress. It receives the title of City on October 2, 1438.
The most important growth of Borja takes place in the 16th century. It is then when the most important houses and palaces that are preserved today are built.
In later times, the construction of buildings of interest will be seen, such as the convents built in the mid-17th century and some palaces of unquestionable importance.
